One Of Our Initiatives To Protect Sea Turtles

Sea Turtle Tracker

Join us in our mission to preserve the majestic sea turtles of Ghana and ensure their survival for future generations.

Why Save The Sea Turtles?

Because they’ve been around for 130 million years and play a critical role on land and in the ocean.

  • Nourish our coral reefs
  • Serve as prey and predators
  • Prevent land erosion

We need to track the Olive Ridley for research purposes but also to see where they go,
encounter issues, and when they come back to the shore where they were born to nest. We
also need to track them for educational purposes in the USA and Ghana.

See What Engineering Students Created

Students at University of Dayton began the project of creating a Sea Turtle Tracker in 2023. Their plan was to develop a small tracker that could be placed on sea turtles to collect data. The data would run through a satellite and be received at Turtle Up Headquarters.

  • The first proof of concept design is complete and constructed
  • The team has done component testing and some system testing
  • We are working on integrating the GPS with the rest of the device and refining the case design
  • The satellite data transmission capability still needs to be added to the device

Goals To Complete The Tracker
